How Does Mediation Work?

Family LawMediation is an approach to divorce that can minimize the emotional and economic impact that often results from a difficult divorce.

During mediation, you discuss and negotiate with your spouse through the guidance of an impartial skilled mediator who provides a comfortable environment for these discussions.

Your mediator is an experienced attorney with knowledge of divorce law and special mediation training who offers guidance on issues concerning parenting/custody, child support, alimony and property/asset distribution.

Your mediator is trained to moderate the emotions of the negotiation while guiding you to a final settlement.

The process is voluntary and may be terminated by you or the mediator at any time.

The conclusion of a successful mediation results in a Memorandum of Understanding. Each party then consults with an attorney for the drafting of a final agreement based upon the Memorandum of Understanding. Finally, the case proceeds as an uncontested divorce.
